History
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) founded this mosque when he arrived at Quba on the outskirts of Madinah during the Hijrah in 622 CE. It is described as the first mosque built in Islam.
The Ministry of Hajj guide notes the hadith that praying here, after purifying oneself at home, carries a reward like that of an Umrah.
The mosque has been rebuilt and expanded several times and can hold tens of thousands of worshippers.
