Masjid al-Qiblatayn

مسجد القبلتين

The 'Mosque of the Two Qiblas', linked to the change of the prayer direction to the Kaaba.

General information. History is summarised from established sources, and visiting rules come from official guidance, which can change. For religious guidance, consult a qualified scholar.

History

Early in the Madinah period, Muslims prayed facing Jerusalem. Revelation then came to face the Kaaba in Makkah (Surah al-Baqarah 2:144).

This mosque is named after that change, in the second year after the Hijrah. It is associated with the prayer in which worshippers turned from one qibla to the other.

It is in the north-west of Madinah and has been rebuilt in modern times.
