General information. History is summarised from established sources, and visiting rules come from official guidance, which can change. For religious guidance, consult a qualified scholar.

History

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) built this mosque after arriving in Madinah in 1 AH (622 CE), next to his home.

He is buried in what was the room of Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), beside Abu Bakr and Umar (may Allah be pleased with them). The green dome stands above.

The Rawdah is the area between his house and his pulpit, described in a hadith as a garden from the gardens of Paradise. The mosque has been greatly expanded over the centuries.
